  The music is fantastic, and they let dogs take communion! The people are really welcoming and open. I'll echo another review and say I'm not a morning person either, and the 5pm service is a really wonderful way to set intentions for the week. They have a prayer segment where anyone can get up and light a candle for themselves or someone they would like to ask the congregation to pray for. The music is also a really big plus, and the sermons by Pastor John are down to earth and really uplifting.

  This is my church home- it was incredibly powerful to show up and be welcomed with so much love- because of who I am, not in spite of it. Communion is a gift of community, & I am honored to share it with my family here. And it's beautiful to have dogs in church, they bring so much love and warmth to the service. In most churches I feel like I'm believing the wrong thing somehow- this church lets me just rest in the love we share, and feel at home.

  At first Grace North was just a gig to make extra money while serving as Minister of Music at the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists and playing secular music around the Bay Area. Soon however, the liturgy and theology began to speak deeply to me and I switched over my membership. Not long after, I was called to seminary and became a Member in Discernment at Grace North pursuant to ordination in the United Church of Christ.

  I found God in community when I joined Grace North Church. I'm just about the most skeptical person when it comes to Christianity, and so that's saying something. Small in numbers, big in heart. Welcomes ALL people. Seriously. Not just "tolerant" or "inclusive" of LGBTQI folks, but effusively welcoming. Extravagant welcome, radically inclusive, etc. And yet, there's a traditional underpinning to the liturgy. It's a beautiful mix of Episcopal Rite II and folk-music. Seriously. Come check it out!

  Grace North Church was kind and welcoming from the moment we walked in. It's a small warm community with incredible live music (very folksy--there's often a banjo and fiddle involved), and the sermons by pastor John are powerful and uplifting. I also like that they meet at 5:00pm -because I am not a morning person! There's plenty of street parking and it's just a block from the "gourmet ghetto" of North Berkeley- so cute! They are "Open & Affirming" and really are so delighted to see and meet anyone who walks in. There is a great variety of theological perspectives in this place.
